The Criteria used to design the ATSS MKIV mount

¨ Must mount  illumination devices forward of the Ballistic Shields and co-axial with the barrel.

¨ Must enable the M2HB to be used as a precision weapon in the confines of urban warfare while also enhancing long range capabilities.

¨ Must be soldier installable.

¨ Must mount the EOTech 552 Holographic, and similar sights, plus Insight Technology’s AN/PEQ-2A and similar aiming and illumination devices over the barrel support as well as in front of the shield.   

¨ Will be attached to an M2HB that is vehicle mounted, usually in ring mounts on HMMWVs, Armored Vehicles, Trucks, and Strykers.

¨ Most targets will be under 500 meters and many less than 200 meters.

¨ Must come on target very rapidly.

¨ Must allow flexible mounting to make use of any devices a unit might have and want to mount.

¨ Must be based on the Mil-Spec-1913 Rail system

¨ Must not interfere with the operation of the gun.

¨ Must prevent contact between the gunner and the mounted aiming devices.

¨ Must mount forward of the receiver to:

¨ allow rapid sight acquisition much like a "Scout Rifle."

¨ allow situation awareness to be continued while acquiring target.

¨ not interfere with access to the loading tray and top cover.

¨ allow rapid engagement of targets in positions such as upper floor apartments and roof tops.

¨ prevent contact with the soldier in the already tight ring mounts.

¨ not block standard issue iron sights.

¨ Must be Ma Deuce Strong and able to withstand the abuse that a top-mounted gun can receive.

¨ Will stay attached to the barrel support and become part of the gun.
